- Scope: this dataset covers the domestic 'Улсын олимпиад' (National School Olympiad, БЕГ-run, 4-tier: school → aimag/district → capital/regional → national final), separate from the international-olympiad dataset in olympiad-results.json. Collected in a single efficient research pass per user instruction — coverage is intentionally uneven across subjects (rich for math, thin for several others) rather than exhaustively chased.
- Subject count varies by year. The current regulation's 12 subjects (used as this file's subject list) are: Монгол хэл бичиг-Уран зохиол, Математик, Физик, Нийгмийн ухаан, Түүх, Хими, Биологи, Газарзүй, Техник технологи, Мэдээлэл зүй, Англи хэл, Орос хэл. For the 2021-2022 academic year (national final held spring 2022), pandemic-recovery policy reduced the roster: https://ikon.mn/n/2hyt explicitly names математик, хими, биологи, физик, мэдээлэл зүй, орос хэл as held, and explicitly states монгол хэл бичиг, түүх-нийгмийн ухаан (i.e. both Нийгмийн ухаан and Түүх), дизайн-технологи (Техник технологи), and англи хэл were NOT held that year (marked 'not held' in this file for 2022). The article's headline says 'найман хичээл' (8 subjects) but its body names only 6 distinct ones plus a duplicated word (likely an error in the original article); Газарзүй's 2022 status could not be confirmed either way in this pass and is left 'unknown' rather than guessed.
- Math (mmo.mn) methodology: mmo.mn hosts the Mongolian Mathematical Olympiad committee's full results tables (per contest, per grade category), served as plain server-rendered HTML with pagination (50 rows/page). Numbers here were obtained by fetching raw HTML directly via curl (not AI-summarized) and de-duplicating by each contestant's numeric ID across all pages of the national final ('III даваа') round for two grade categories: E (grades 9-10) and F (grades 11-12). 'participants' = E + F combined for that year. A third category, T (labeled 'ДБ'), also ran at the national final in 2023-2025 with large headcounts (500 in 2023, 140 in 2024, 131 in 2025) but its exact meaning/eligibility wasn't confirmed in this pass, so it is excluded from 'participants' to keep the metric comparable across all 5 years; flagging here rather than guessing. Year-to-competition-edition mapping used: MMO-57=2021, MMO-58=2022, MMO-59=2023, MMO-60=2024, MMO-61=2025 (confirmed via each edition's III даваа date on mmo.mn).
- Cross-check: math's national-final F-category (11-12) winners line up with Mongolia's IMO team roster in olympiad-results.json — Enerelt Delgerdalai topped F three years running (2022-2024) before/during his IMO medals (gold 2023, gold 2024), and Manlai Sonor (2025 F top finisher here) won IMO silver in 2025. This corroborates both datasets independently.
- Informatics: 2025 figure (136) is the total across all three contest categories (47 junior, 45 senior grades 11-12, and 44 teachers) at the 39th National Informatics Olympiad, per https://humanz.mn/?p=21262, which also states the medal structure as 1 gold + 3 silver + 5 bronze + 5 special placements per category (42 total award recipients across categories) — no individual winner names were available in that source, so 'winners' is left empty rather than invented. Other years (2021-2024) were not located within this pass's search budget.
- English: 2025 figure (570) is national-final ('улсын 26 дахь олимпиад') student participants only, per https://news.num.edu.mn/?p=101595, which separately states 35 teachers also competed. No named winner was found (only the general prize note that the top scorer wins a study trip to the US). Other years unknown.
- Chemistry, Biology, Russian: Mongolian press repeatedly cites approximate aggregate figures for these subjects (e.g. chemistry ~70 students / ~40 teachers reaching the national final out of 3700+ at the initial school/district level; biology ~300 students / ~90 teachers reaching the national final out of ~4200; Russian ~140 students reaching the national final out of ~2100), but none could be traced to one stable, directly-quotable primary source in this pass (they surfaced only via aggregated multi-page search summaries). Rather than cite an untraceable number, these are left 'unknown' in the dataset; noted here as a lead for a future pass if deeper collection is ever wanted. A 2018 named Chemistry National Olympiad winner (29th edition) was found (montsame.mn/mn/read/90465) but falls outside the 2021-2025 window and is excluded.
- Geography: a widely-surfaced figure ('нийт 762 сурагч', 'дунд 368, ахлах 394') turned out on closer reading to be a single aimag's (Завхан) 2nd-round tally across 11 subjects combined (montsame.mn/mn/read/357828), not a national-final, geography-specific count — excluded to avoid misattributing provincial multi-subject data as national geography data. No reliable national-round geography figures were found in this pass.
- History: a separate, seemingly distinct 'Түүхийн улсын олимпиад' organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (mfa.gov.mn) surfaced with named winners for 2017 and 2018 (outside the 2021-2025 window, and possibly a different competition from the BEG-run 12-subject 'Түүх' national olympiad tracked here) — excluded to avoid conflating two differently-run competitions under the same Mongolian name.
- Convention: names are written given-name-first (matching olympiad-results.json's convention), even where the source table lists surname first (mmo.mn's 'Овог'/'Нэр' columns) — verified against known cross-references (e.g. mmo.mn's Овог=Delgerdalai/Нэр=Enerelt matches olympiad-results.json's 'Enerelt Delgerdalai'). 'participants' is 'unknown' where no count was found, and 'not held' where a subject's national round is confirmed to not have run that year — the two are kept distinct rather than collapsed into one placeholder.
